Our Story
M King & Co was founded on a simple but powerful belief: that businesses deserve the advice from a true financial partner working from within.
Our founder, Matthew King, spent the early part of his career deeply embedded in the European investment landscape, working across merchant banking and investment advisory firms on both buy-side and sell-side transactions in the TMT sector.
Over time, his work began to evolve naturally. Roles grew more operational, external guidance gave way to genuine collaboration with internal teams, and what began as transaction-focused advisory became something far more engaged: a seat at the table instead of a voice from the outside.
That evolution became the founding philosophy of M King & Co, established in 2022: a firm built to advise from within, working hand in hand with decision makers.
Today, we partner with technology and media businesses, sectors where the investor expectations are high and where the CEO cannot afford to have finance be the thing that slows the business down.
We embed ourselves within your organisation and operate as an extension of your leadership team, bringing the rigour of institutional finance to businesses that demand more from their financial partnerships.
Our Team
Matthew King
Matthew is the founding partner of M King & Co., focused on strategic and financial consultancy and implementation.
In addition to his work with M King & Co., Matthew serves as a Senior Advisor to AlTi Global and Time Partners on corporate finance transactions in the media and technology sectors as well as providing financial and strategic advice to VC-backed European companies.
He is also an angel investor and board member in early-stage technology and consumer businesses in the UK and elsewhere.
He began his career in Media & Technology investment banking, having more than 10 years of experience and advising on over £2.5bn in transactions across Europe and North America. A Canadian and British national, he is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada and IE Business School in Spain.
James Morrison
James brings hands-on experience working with private companies across the consumer and technology sectors, advising on financial modelling, business strategy and scenario planning.
Before joining M King & Co., he was part of the Corporate Finance team at Time Partners, advising family- and founder-owned businesses, family offices and private equity funds on strategy, fundraising and investment matters across global markets. Prior to that, he was an Origination Analyst at Dunedin LLP, an Edinburgh-based private equity firm specialising in mid-market buyouts across the business and financial services sectors.
James is a CFA Charterholder and holds a degree in Economics and Finance from Heriot-Watt University.
José María Otoya
José brings a distinctive combination of financial expertise and data science capability to M King & Co. He holds degrees in both Economics and Finance, graduating with honours, and built his early career as a Data Science Analyst. This experience shaped a rigorous, data-driven approach to financial and business problems that goes beyond the typical finance profile.
At M King & Co, José supports the firm's senior advisory work across a range of client engagements, contributing to financial modelling, industry and market research, and the data analysis that underpins strategic recommendations. Known for his attention to detail, he ensures that every piece of analysis is technically robust and commercially meaningful.
He works across the firm's core sectors, including technology, consumer, and B2B services, and brings the precision and rigour that turns good advice into confident decisions.
